An Evening Under the Stars 2010
On Friday evening October 8, 2010, the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Association hosted "An Evening Under the Stars!" Gala in celebration of completion of the eastward expansion of the Hudson Valley Rail Trail in Highland, New York. The occasion featured a cocktail reception on the trail followed by dinner and dancing in a festively decorated tent, a silent auction and stargazing.
Ribbon Cutting
On Saturday October 2, 2010, a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held in celebration of the completion of the eastward expansion of the Hudson Valley Rail Trail transforming 1.3 miles of abandoned rail bed into a spectacular pedestrian pathway. This newly constructed portion of the trail connects the existing 2.5 mile rail trail from Commercial Avenue to the Walkway Over the Hudson Historic State Park.
5k Race
On Saturday October 16, 2010, the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Association hosted an Inaugural 5K Race and Walk on the newly constructed portion of the Hudson Valley Rail Trail. It was a very well attended event despite the cool and windy October morning. The racers and walkers experienced this beautiful portion of the trail as they traveled under the newly constructed bridge at Mile Hill Road, under Route 9W and over the newly installed bridge over Vineyard Avenue as they competed in this event.
Winterfest 2011
Saturday morning began with below 0 temperatures, but the sun decided to shine upon WinterFest 2011 and the temperature soared to the mid 20's. The crowds were the largest yet! Visitors came from all over to join in the winter fun. Keeping the visitors busy were Wagon rides on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail, roasted chestnuts, toasted marshmallows, children's activities, the Rail Trail Grille hot chocolate and hot dogs, and 22 pots of chili from area restaurants.
